A Swedish CCS facility has had their environmental permit granted
)
A grant to construct a CCS facility in Sweden, specifically Filbornaverket in Helsingborg, has been granted by The Land and Environmental Court.
This permit approval has occurred after a comprehensive process has taken place. This process involved organisations, businesses, authorities and finally property owners who were based within the area surrounding the site.
It is evident that the court’s decision around this project, was a critical step required in order to advance the project. The plan for this project, is for it to be able to capture an estimated 200,000 tons of CO2 and for it to be collecting this carbon dioxide from Filbornaverket’s flue gases.
“The Land and Environment Court assesses that the environmental effects have been sufficiently described in the submitted environmental impact assessment and that it therefore meets the requirements of Chapter 6 of the Environmental Code, allowing the specific environmental assessment to be completed.”
Technical Project Manager for Öresundskraft’s CCS initiative, Johan Lundberg, commented, “This is an important milestone for the CCS project. This permit is a prerequisite for us to move forward with the project as planned. The environmental study in the permit process is the result of thorough work where we have detailed how the CCS facility will impact both the broader environment and the local surroundings. The decision confirms that the court’s assessment of climate benefits and environmental impact aligns with our evaluations."
