Rikkyo Educational Corporation and K Line are collaborating over on-board CO2 capture system

Rikkyo Educational Corporation and K Line are collaborating over on-board CO2 capture system

K Line has signed an agreement with Rikkyo Educational Corporation and together they will collaborate on a research project, which falls into the endowment category. This project is called, "Social Implementation of Future Marine Environmentally Harmonious Materials".

It has been stated that this research project will be aimed at clarifying the applicability of MOF to the on-board CO2 capturing system. This will be completed through the evaluation of MOF’s absorption-desorption performance, which will be conducted under the presence of CO2 contained within exhaust gas from a vessel. Altogether, this project will be completed with the overall purpose of expanding the technology part of “K” LINE’s OCCS domain.

The “K” LINE Advanced Technology Future Environment Project Laboratory has been established within Rikkyo University, for use throughout the research project. The purpose of doing this, is to capitalise on the industry-academia collaboration. So far, the project involves the development of an on-board carbon dioxide capturing system, which operates through the use of MOF technology, a material known for being porous. Overall this project is being carried out alongside a research group which is being led by Professor Mao Minoura at the Department of Chemistry, College of Science, Rikkyo University.

Altogether, “K” LINE is focused on conducting and advancing a range of initiatives and these include the operation of liquefied CO2 carriers, with the intention of these going on to decarbonise society. One of these initiatives is of particular interest, as it is focused on the discussion of OCCS technology, which is used to separate, capture and finally, store on-board the CO2 which is emitted from the vessel.

It has been made very clear that throughout the project, “K” LINE will be dedicated to the research project, as well as other initiatives. Furthermore, it will also work to support decarbonisation when it comes to both itself and other parts of society, based on the “K” LINE Enviromentla Vision 2050. This is the company’s long-term environmental guideline.
