A partnership between Bureau Veritas and Samsung has begun over floating CO2 storage solutions
It was recently announced that Bureau Veritas has started a new partnership with Samsung Heavy Industries (SHI). This partnership has been set up with the intention of developing Floating CO2 Storage Units (FCSU) along with CCS projects within the Republic of Korea.
It has been decided that this collaboration will centre on validating, as well as certifying new CCS technologies which are both cost-effective and sustainable. On top of this, BV and SHI have agreed to partner over pilot projects, in order to test the commercial potential of CCS technologies.
Throughout this collaboration, it has been agreed that BV will utilise its certification expertise in order to handle technical reviews, as well as independent risk assessments. Further to this, both companies will focus on carrying out environmental studies, whilst also creating risk management plans which will be designed to ensure both the safety and sustainability of CCS projects.
Asia Pacific (APA) at Bureau Veritas Marine & Offshore, Senior Vice President, Alex Gregg-Smith, commented, "Our partnership with SHI is an important step in our efforts to support the deployment of innovative carbon capture and storage technologies. By combining our expertise, we aim to advance the commercialization of FCSU and CCS solutions, which are critical for achieving global climate goals."
Samsung Heavy Industries Co., Ltd., Chief Technology Officer, Mr. Haeki Jang, mentioned, “This collaboration marks a significant step towards realizing our vision of a sustainable future. By leveraging the strengths of both SHI and BV, we are committed to accelerating the deployment of carbon capture and storage solutions that meet the evolving demands of the global maritime and offshore industries. Together, we aim to contribute to a cleaner, more sustainable world through the development of advanced CCS technologies.”
