It has been agreed that Nuada and Carbfix will collaborate in order to create an integrated CCS solution. The companies plan to do this through combining Nuada’s carbon capture technology and Carbfix’s permanent underground CO2 mineralisation method.

So far, it has been arranged that the newly developed solution will be aimed at reducing emissions in key sectors such as, lime, steel, cement, waste-to-energy and finally bio-energy.

Furthermore, through the use of a combined approach, both companies have made their aim clear. This aim is to support industries throughout their efforts when it comes to meeting global climate goals with the use of an efficient, integrated carbon capture and storage model.

The award-winning carbon capture process, which was designed by Nuada, combines advanced solid sorbents, MOFs, as well as vacuum pressure swing absorption (VPSA) technology. This technology is a huge advancement for the carbon capture industry, as it achieves high-efficiency CO2 capture from point-source emissions, whilst simultaneously overcoming long-standing deployment barriers around carbon capture. These barriers include integration complexity, energy consumption and finally, cost.

Carbfix will be bringing more than a decade of expertise to this project and the company offers CO2 storage technology, which accelerates natural mineralisation processes through using the technique of injecting captured CO2 into porous basaltic rock. Once the CO2 has been injected in this way, it is then transformed permanently into stone throughout the course of less than two years. It has previously been proven that this approach is both cost-effective and safe, therefore it is now highlighted as a long-term and secure method when it comes to storing CO2 underground.
