King’s Award presented to O.C.O. Technology for Enterprise

The Enterprise: Sustainable Development 2024, recently occurred and O.C.O Technology, a carbon capture specialist, received the King’s Award, for their contribution to this event.

Two-hundred and fifty-two organisations were nationally recognised for their contribution and O.C.O was among these numbers. The King’s Award is a programme which has been active for 58 years now and it is known as the most prestigious business award in the country. One of the privileges that being awarded this provides, is that the chosen businesses, can use the esteemed King’s Awards Emeblem for five years after the date they received it.

In the past this award was known as The Queen’s Awards for Enterprise, however it was renamed in 2023 to reflect His Majesty The King’s desire to continue HM Queen Elizabeth II’s legacy.

O.C.O Technology was recognised for its pioneering work with Accelerated Carbonation Technology (ACT) which works through treating Air Pollution Control residues (APCr). These residues are mostly produced by energy from Waste facilities, with carbon dioxide gas. The process which O.C.O Technology puts the residues through, transforms the Co2 into artificial aggregate, which has become recognised as the world’s first carbon negative aggregate.

The innovative company’s headquarters are located in Brandon, Suffolk and on top of this, the company has also recently opened up a new production facility in Wretham, Norfolk. The company also runs other facilities and employs one-hundred and twenty people throughout the country. Plus, it is also in partnership with other companies in Australia, Japan, Europe and it is looking to expand into future opportunities within North America and throughout Asia.

Some of the reasons why O.C.O technology was selected for this award, included, the way they add value to stakeholders’ environmental performance, such as through carbon reductions and waste avoided. They were also selected for their research and development programme, which focuses on fostering innovation when it comes to new product applications, including asphalt and concrete.

O.C.O Technology’s Chief Executive Officer, Steve Greig, commented, “We are hugely proud to be awarded such a prestigious honour, cementing our reputation as the clear UK market leader in carbon mineralisation. Our patented technology offers real sustainable solutions in helping the Energy from Waste (EfW) industry manage the disposal of waste materials, turning them into carbon negative manufactured limestone aggregate which is in high demand from the construction sector. To have our hard work acknowledged at the highest level is incredibly rewarding and we look forward to flying the flag for British success and the circular economy as we continue to develop our partnerships on the world stage.”
