The FEED for a CCS project in Malaysia has been started by JAPEX

The FEED for a CCS project in Malaysia has been started by JAPEX

It has been announced that the FFED work for the CO2 Onshore Terminal and Receiving Jetty topside of the CCS project located in Sarawak, will be started by JAPEX and JGC Corporation.

The plan for this project is that JAPEX, along with other partners, will begin joint technical and commercial studies on the CO2 Onshore Terminal and Receiving Jetty. Throughout this part of the project, JAPEX will use their experience, along with their knowledge of planning, designing and finally, operating on oil and gas fields.

The FEED work which will soon be undertaken, aligns with the company’s agreement with Japan Organization for Metals and Energy Security (JOGMEC) around the design work, etc. which is related to the Eastern CCS Hub Project (ECH).

Already it has been planned that this ECH project will involve the international transport of CO2 from Japan to Malaysia. Doing this will make this project the first commercial project in the world that will involve transport of CO2 at both low temperature and low pressure.

So far, JGC has an excellent track record when it comes to conducting feasibility studies for CCS facilities. Furthermore, the company also has an excellent track record for design and construction and therefore, they plan to use this skill and knowledge in order to conduct the FEED.

The promotion of the FEED is occurring with the aim of bringing about early commercialisation of the ECH project. Following this aim, JAPEX and other partners are also focused on contributing towards carbon neutrality in 2050, plus these parties are also working towards creating a decarbonised society in Asia targeted by the ‘Asia Energy Transition Initiative (AETI).’
