A new plan for Flowserve to supply Dry Gas Seals and Dry Gas Seal Systems to the high-pressure injection packages, has been revealed. Celeros will provide these injection packages and the equipment that is due to be delivered by Flowserve will be integrated into these packages.

This project is incredibly significant, as it will pioneer the first-ever continuous supercritical CO2 (sCO2) pump injection services regarding enhanced oil recovery within the market. Furthermore, the use of Flowserve’s sealing solutions in a project of this capacity, highlights a very important technological achievement.

It was in 2023 when ADNOC made an announcement stating that, ‘the development of one of the largest carbon capture projects in the Middle East and North Africa region that will enable the capture and storage of 1.5 million tons of carbon dioxide annually.’ The project that is currently underway is part of ADNOC’s wider decarbonisation strategy and it requires the installation of two high-pressure injection packages within ADNOC’s Habshan gas plant.

The next steps for this project will take place once the initiative is fully operational and it will involve the injection packages handling the captured sCO2. The injection packages are capable of handling the captured sCO2 as they contain Celeros’ advanced high-pressure BB5 pump technology. Once the injection packages are in charge of the sCO2, they will transport it from ADNOC’s Habshan facility to their Bab Far North Field Development CO2 Storage Hub. To do this, the injection packages will follow a route that goes through a dedicated pipeline and by 2030, ADNOC hopes to achieve their aim of increasing their carbon capture capacity to five million tons on an annual basis.
