Redundancy strategy for system reliability in an interdisciplinary approach as power and water supply for Green Hydrogen Plants

24 Oct 2024
Hydrogen Production

Power and water are the major supply items of water electrolysis. In this study, it is investigated water electrolysis plant redundancy as a novel approach to maximize system reliability by given various system-level constraints with respect to the combination water and power distribution process.
The primary task of the Green Hydrogen Plant power system is to ensure a low-cost and high reliability power supply. Therefore, the design scheme of power supply devices are the first important point. Secondary most important system parameter is supplying ensuring a low-cost and high reliability water.
Failure tree analysis of the water electrolysis plant power supply distribution with high voltage connection and water supply distribution with utility connections will be presented for a 50MW electrolysis plant.
Hydrogen will be the sustainable future of the world and system reliability evaluation will be critical to supply fully redundant systems in the energy transition. In this study, an approach of supplying hydrogen with low cost and high reliability for water and power will be introduced along the recommendation for the optimal design scheme of hydrogen supply devices, and hydrogen supply reliability. This study is novel due to the interdisciplinary approach regarding system reliability design of Green Hydrogen plants.
