Hybrid Architecture Innovation
Isotta Fraschini Motori, a Fincantieri subsidiary, will present the ongoing activities in Bari where new power management systems that manage multiple sources of energy production are studied. This includes many sources of power generation, including renewables: fuel cells, batteries, internal combustion engines, turbines, photovoltaic and others, integrating them with each other to optimize the energy supply in complex devices.
The presentation will start with the Concept description of the new IFM Hybrid Architecture, in development within the framework of IPCEI (Important Project of Common European Interest), possible thanks to funding obtained from the Puglia region.
In the context of Zero Net Carbon Mission, IFM will explain its strategic vision in terms of contribution to the energy transition and emission reduction, proposing a solution based on hydrogen technology, highly compliant with current regulations and certified for marine applications, IFM main market field. The core of the presentation will cover the activities for the design of the two main systems of the Hybrid Architecture:The first concerns the PEM Fuel Cell System with the focus on IFM engineering approach in the Concept development, in order to achieve power range of 150–500 kW with modular characteristic to easily reach multi-MW system. The second concerns the Internal Combustion Engine and its project strategy with the detailing study of the Single-Cylinder Engine (SCE) combustion. Going in depth with the engine project development, IFM will introduce the new engine modular platform and its engineering targets to justify the hardware solutions during the transition from Diesel to Hydrogen.
